TOEFL, fair to say, is the most challenging yet at the same time most interesting test that I’ve ever taken. For 10 years we have always been taking the ordinary lengthy tests at school and we definitely won’t feel inspired after the tiring hours. But in my point of view, TOEFL is just the opposite of that. It provides us with a trulyunique experience, which allows us to gain knowledge and have a taste of the colorful American culture. That’s why I think I can get such an outstanding score in this special test of skills ------ to take it as an enlightening learning experience instead of an arduous task.
As we all know, TOEFL has a lot of academic Reading and Listening passages, most of which are about natural sciences or social studies. I strongly believe that during the test, the attitude matters more than all the pre-test training or practices. For the Reading section, I tend to read the passages like the ones on a Discovery Channel Magazine instead of the ones on a test paper. I believe only by thinking so can we truly dive into the text and comprehend its meanings. During the Listening section, I don’t like to take a lot of notes (unlike many others who want to write every single word down). We may leave out very essential information when we focus on the monotonous dictating job, making it hard to understand the lectures or the conversations. I would imagine that I was just in that specific scenario provided by the listening passage, and try to keep up with their train of thought. Who would ever use a notebook to write down everything when talking to a close friend about everyday school affairs? Speaking and Writing are the most comprehensive sections. It’s the original ideas that touch people, and judges love to listen to students’ own thoughts. Simply use English to express yourselves, use your past experiences to give a satisfying response to the judges. There are a lot of so-called formats on the Internet, but they are just a second best choice. Expressing yourselves “out of the box” is the best way to impress the judges and get an outstanding score.
I have to say that I was totally shocked when getting the score, but I believe that I’d be equally satisfied if I haven’t scored this high, for I learned new things in the joyful process. TOEFL may be pretty hard but do enjoy it, probably it’ll bring you way more than you have ever thought!
